"Learning
is what most adults will do for a living in the 21st Century"
-Perelman
Before
beginning this program, I had a basic knowledge of content for physical
education and some instructional and classroom management strategies.
I gave little thought to the curriculum, how I taught or the students
in my classes. I did not give much thought to long-term planning
or how daily lessons fit into that planning. I didn’t really
think about where we were going or the best way to get there. I had
little
confidence in discussing learning and teaching in the regular classroom
or little need to collaborate with colleagues. My level of scholarly
reading and knowledge of research were basic. In summary, I knew
what I needed to survive each day in my classroom and maintain my
current level of professional results.
As you explore my portfolio, you will see that I have moved from
a basic understanding of teaching, learning and scholarship
to a deeper understanding
of the concepts and issues facing teachers and learners. I have an understanding
of learning theories and practice. I have developed skills in regards to
using new technologies and am able to use and incorporate technology to
engage learners in meaningful learning. I am able to consume
and evaluate research
and make decisions that benefit my students. I am more aware of diverse
learners and how to design instruction to engage them. I
understand the importance
of collaboration and professional involvement.
Completion of this program does not signal the end of my learning.
I will use the skills and knowledge I have gained from the
program to continue
to evolve and learn. The process is one of reflection and change and
I will
continue to use what I have learned to provide the best strategies and
effective instruction to ensure my students are engaged in meaningful learning.
